Step through an unassuming red brick doorway in downtown New Westminster and discover the magic of the Flapper Lounge—a 1920s-inspired cocktail bar with more than just vintage charm. This hidden gem is a place where glamour, creativity, and purpose come together in one unforgettable experience.

Founded by Linda, a former corporate marketing pro turned event venue owner, the Flapper Lounge was born out of necessity and vision. During the pandemic, Linda’s Metro Hall banquet business came to a halt. Instead of waiting it out, she pivoted. She transformed what was once office space into a prohibition-style cocktail bar that would soon become a favourite hangout for those craving entertainment with substance.

“We’ve got over 50 cocktails on the menu,” Linda says proudly, “from timeless classics to rotating monthly features that go through a serious tasting process before they ever hit your glass.” Add in a food menu that’s now rigorously tested by a rotating group of guests, and you have a place where quality and creativity are non-negotiable.

But cocktails and charcuterie are only part of the story.

What truly sets the Flapper Lounge apart is its mission: to honour the trailblazing women of the 1920s and create a safe, inclusive space for women today. The venue’s walls are adorned with historic images of real-life flapper rebels, feminists, and changemakers like Lily Elbe, the first documented person to transition genders. These women aren’t decoration, they’re the heart of the Flapper Lounge’s identity.

“It’s easy to do the gangster-and-cigars version of a 1920s bar,” Linda explains. “But I wanted something different. These flapper women? They were brave, they were bold, and they paved the way for us. That’s who I want to celebrate.”

Clara Bow is often cited among the most famous, with Bow embodying the "it girl" of flapper culture.

Her passion doesn’t stop there. Linda’s long-term goal is to channel cocktail sales into meaningful change. The lounge has already begun raising funds through select signature drinks to support women escaping abusive situations. But Linda’s vision goes deeper; she’s working toward justice system reform for survivors. “It’s not just about raising money for one house,” she says. “It’s about changing the system.”

Even if you don’t know any of that, walking in, you’ll feel it. There’s something special about the energy inside the Flapper Lounge. Maybe it’s the live music on Saturdays, the cheeky Drag Bingo on Wednesdays, or the Burlesque Thursdays that pull in a crowd ready to laugh, cheer, and connect. Maybe it’s the mannequins in feathered headbands or the cheeky cocktail names that change every month. Or maybe it’s the fact that a woman can walk in alone and feel safe, welcomed, and seen.

It’s no surprise that the lounge draws mostly women, often dressed to the theme, feather boas and all. But everyone is welcome here—what matters most is that you show up ready for fun.

Open Wednesday through Saturday (unless a large wedding upstairs at Metro Hall takes priority), the Flapper Lounge isn’t your typical cocktail bar. It’s kitschy. It’s playful. It’s a little mysterious. And that’s exactly the way Linda likes it.
