A unique and flavour-filled holiday celebration is coming to New Westminster as Dehls Gourmet hosts an African-Inspired Christmas Buffet on Wednesday, December 24, from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 906 Quayside Drive. The festive event invites guests to celebrate Christmas with a rich blend of African culinary traditions and seasonal cheer.
The buffet will feature a variety of traditional African dishes with a festive twist, carefully prepared by Dehls Gourmetβs chefs. From hearty, slow-cooked stews to vibrant sides and indulgent desserts, the menu is designed to offer something for every palate in a warm and welcoming setting.
Set along the river at the Quay, the event offers an inviting alternative to a traditional holiday mealβperfect for those looking to try something new or celebrate with friends and family over great food. Tickets are $49 per person, and advance booking is recommended.
Winter break brings extra opportunities for hands-on learning at the Fraser River Discovery Centre, which is offering Winter Discovery Days from December 20 to January 4. Designed for curious minds of all ages, the program features daily facilitated activities, storytime, and self-guided exploration focused on how plants and animals survive the winter season.
From December 20 to 27, Frosty Adventures: Animal Adaptations explores how wildlife adapts as temperatures drop, with interactive challenges, games, and activities highlighting migration, fur, feathers, and clever survival strategies. From December 28 to January 4, Snowy Sprouts: Plant Secrets for Seasonal Survival shifts attention to plants, offering simple science experiments, microscopes, movement-based activities, and games that reveal how plants prepare for winter and support healthy ecosystems.
Activities run daily between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with facilitated programming and storytime scheduled throughout the day. The centre is closed December 25 and January 1. Admission is included with regular entry, making this an engaging winter break outing for families.
