Two suspects are in custody after a violent incident near the New Westminster SkyTrain Station late on May 6.

According to the New Westminster Police Department, officers responded around 11:00 p.m. after a 9-1-1 caller reported that a woman had been slashed with a knife. The caller also provided descriptions of two men seen fleeing the area.

Police located two suspects on Columbia Street within minutes. When officers attempted to stop them, the men ran in separate directions, leading to two foot pursuits before both were arrested.

Investigators say one suspect was found carrying:

  • a loaded handgun

  • drugs

  • and thousands of dollars in counterfeit cash

The injured woman was treated at the scene and transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services. Police say the relationship between the victim and suspects remains under investigation.

NWPD also praised the witness who immediately called 9-1-1, noting that quick action from bystanders can play a critical role in helping victims and assisting police investigations.

Starlight Casino New Westminster is encouraging guests to take part in a new BCLC player experience survey running from May 6 to June 5, 2026. Participants who complete the short survey will be entered for a chance to win one of eleven $250 gift cards to a retailer of their choice.
