A New Westminster police officer on patrol spotted a man wanted on several warrants in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue on July 27. When approached, the man fled on foot. Despite an extensive search with the help of the Integrated Police Dog Service, he was not located.
Three days later, the Vancouver Police Department tracked the same man to the Burnaby area near Lougheed Mall. With the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, officers arrested him without incident.
Charges for obstructing a peace officer were later approved, thanks to coordinated efforts between both police departments and Crown Counsel. The New Westminster Police Department acknowledged the quick communication and teamwork that led to the swift outcome and thanked the Vancouver Police Department for their support.
Big news for river commuters—New Westminster’s Q to Q Ferry is here to stay! The City has signed a new five-year deal with Bowen Land and Sea Taxi Ltd. (BLaST), securing service between Queensborough and Downtown until 2030.
The ferry has become a favourite way to cross the Fraser River, giving residents and visitors a quick, scenic, and sustainable option to connect with local businesses and avoid traffic. Under the new agreement, fares remain the same, with single tickets, punch cards, and monthly passes available. Kids 12 and under still ride free.
Seasonal schedules continue, with more sailings in spring and summer when demand is highest, and reduced service in fall and winter. The current schedule runs until September 2, when the fall timetable takes effect.
BLaST has operated the service since 2018, using 12-passenger water taxis equipped for wheelchairs and bicycles. The company will continue working with the City to keep the ferry safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible.
With this renewed agreement, the Q to Q Ferry remains a vital link between neighbourhoods—and a great way to experience the river.
