Are you actively involved in the arts community and passionate about bringing creative events to life? Arts New West is inviting community members to join the New West Cultural Crawl Planning Committee.
This volunteer committee plays a key role in shaping one of New Westminster’s most vibrant arts celebrations. Committee members collaborate to develop ideas, support artists, and help bring the Cultural Crawl to the community in meaningful and engaging ways.
Arts New West is looking for volunteers who are organized, reliable, and excited to work as part of a team. Creative thinkers with fresh ideas, a love for arts and culture, and an interest in event planning, community engagement, or arts advocacy are encouraged to apply. Experience in event planning, marketing, logistics, artist relations, or outreach is an asset—but enthusiasm and commitment matter most.
If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, share your ideas, and help strengthen New West’s creative scene, this is a great opportunity to get involved and make an impact.
🚓 Police Vehicle Struck During Overnight Traffic Stop in New Westminster
An overnight traffic stop in New Westminster ended with a serious collision after a speeding vehicle struck a parked police car early January 19.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., a New Westminster Police Department officer was conducting a routine traffic stop near 10th Avenue and 20th Street. While the officer was outside his vehicle speaking with a driver at the roadside, another car travelling at a high rate of speed collided with the police vehicle.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported to the officer or the driver involved in the traffic stop. The police vehicle sustained significant damage. The driver who struck the cruiser was transported to hospital as a precaution.
Police say the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition after refusing to provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device.
“This highlights the real risks officers face every day while working roadside,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Slowing down and moving over is the law — and it exists to protect everyone.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact NWPD at 604-525-5411, referencing file 26-1032.
