The New Westminster Police Department is asking for the public’s help following a violent assault near River Market on the evening of October 30, 2025.

Around 9:00 p.m., police responded to reports of a group of five people assaulting a man on the pedestrian overpass at the bottom of 8th Street. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene and later transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services.

According to witnesses, the injured man had intervened when he saw three men and two women attacking someone else. The group then turned on him. The original victim and suspects left the area before police arrived.

Investigators are now seeking additional witnesses and dash cam footage from the area of Columbia Street and 8th Street, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
