New Westies have spoken — and I:T Char Burger has been voted Best Burger in New West!

Our very first Best of New West ballot is officially complete, and what began as a test to help us learn the new voting system turned into something much bigger than we expected.

1,451 unique visitors checked out the Best Burger ballot during the voting period.

From those visits, 372 ballots were submitted, with 312 voters completing the email confirmation process.

And when the votes were counted, I:T Char Burger came out on top , followed by Burger Heaven Restaurant.

That is a pretty impressive showing for a small local business — and a great example of why we wanted to create Best of New West in the first place.

There are fantastic businesses throughout New Westminster that people may drive past every day without knowing what is behind the door. When New Westies share their favourites, the rest of us discover places we may never have found on our own.

Want to make a difference in New Westminster? The City is inviting community-minded residents to apply for volunteer positions on its Committees, Commissions and Boards for the 2027/2028 term.

These groups give residents an opportunity to bring their experience, ideas and perspectives to local government while contributing to discussions on important community issues.

Applications opened September 8, 2026, and residents can review current vacancies before applying for up to three groups, listed in order of preference. Applicants must generally live in New Westminster, cannot be City employees and should be able to serve the full appointment term.

Most advisory groups meet approximately every other month, with meetings generally lasting about two hours. The positions are volunteer roles and are unpaid, although Indigenous representatives on committees may receive an honorarium.

The Library Board application deadline is October 20, 2026, while applications for other Advisory Groups are due November 3, 2026.

Applications can be submitted online, by email or by mail. City Council makes the appointments after applications are reviewed for eligibility and completeness.
