If your evening commute takes you across the Queensborough Bridge, it may be time to plan ahead.
Nighttime lane closures are now underway as part of a major project to renew the bridge deck — work that will continue through fall 2027.
Starting this month, drivers can expect single-lane traffic in each direction overnight, as crews carry out essential upgrades to improve the bridge’s safety and longevity. The closures are limited to nighttime hours to help reduce daytime disruption on one of the region’s busiest crossings.
⏱ What to Expect
Weeknights: 9:30 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.
Weekends: 9:30 p.m. – 9:00 a.m.
One lane open each direction overnight
Winter break: November 2026 – March 2027
With nearly 88,000 vehicles crossing daily, the Queensborough Bridge is a vital link for New Westminster and the surrounding region. While the work may mean slower trips in the evening, it’s part of a long-term effort to keep the bridge safe, reliable, and ready for the future.
Drivers of oversized vehicles may face additional delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
With spring in the air, many New Westminster residents are starting to think about gardens, balconies, and fresh greenery — and the New Westminster Public Library (NWPL) is making it easier than ever to get started.
The library’s Seed Library is now open for the season, offering a simple and welcoming way for the community to pick up free seeds and start growing.
Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just curious to try something new, signing up is quick and easy. Residents can visit the main Seed Library at the Main Branch or stop by the mini Seed Library in Queensborough to explore available seeds.
From flowers to herbs and vegetables, the program encourages people to grow their own plants, connect with nature, and take part in a shared, sustainable community initiative.
It’s a small idea with a big impact — helping neighbours grow food, support pollinators, and bring a little more green into everyday life.
