Located in the heart of New Westminster, Studio 66 is a welcoming salon dedicated to providing top-quality hair and beauty services. Owned by Leanne Frewin, the salon has built a reputation for excellence, customer care, and a friendly, relaxing atmosphere.
Challenges of Running a Salon
Leanne shares that one of the biggest challenges of owning a salon is managing costs while maintaining affordability for clients. “The price of everything keeps going up, and I don’t want to be the most expensive salon—I want to be reasonable,” she explains. Balancing expenses while providing excellent service is a constant focus for Studio 66.
Misconceptions About the Beauty Industry
Many people assume that salon owners make a huge profit, but Leanne clarifies that it’s not always the case. “People think if I raise prices by $2, I’m being greedy, but the reality is that overhead costs are significant.” She also notes that customers sometimes believe they need to switch salons if one stylist doesn’t work for them. “We always encourage clients to come back and try a different stylist—we’re happy to accommodate their needs.”

Where to Find Studio 66 Online
Studio 66 maintains an active online presence with a website, Facebook, and Instagram. The salon also offers online booking, and Leanne is currently transitioning to a new booking system to make scheduling even easier for clients. All links to staff bios, services, and promotions can be found on the website and Google profile.
Rebuilding Studio 66’s Google Presence
A few years ago, Studio 66 experienced a wave of fake negative reviews unrelated to the business, which significantly impacted its Google rating. “I’m working hard to rebuild our presence,” Leanne says. She is now actively encouraging satisfied clients to leave honest reviews and regularly updating the salon’s Google Business Profile.

Exciting New Services and Promotions
Studio 66 is introducing new service bundles focused on treatments like conditioning, scalp care, and color enhancements. These packages will be announced on the website and social media soon.
Final Thoughts from Leanne
Leanne invites new clients to visit Studio 66 at least once. “If someone comes in, I know they’ll love it and want to stay. It’s a great place with a fantastic team.”

Residents of New Westminster may soon experience mail and parcel delivery disruptions, as Canada Post has received formal strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). The notices, which apply to both urban employees and rural and suburban mail carriers (RSMCs), indicate that strike actions could begin at 12:00 a.m. local time on Friday, May 23, unless a deal is reached before then.
While Canada Post’s operations remain unaffected for now, the looming strike could lead to rotating service disruptions. In such a scenario, mail delivery would continue in areas not directly impacted by strike activity. However, even limited disruptions may lead to delays in receiving letters, bills, online orders, and other important documents—services that many New Westminster residents rely on daily.
If CUPW initiates a full-scale national strike, all mail and parcel services would come to a complete halt, with no new items accepted and existing mail secured until operations resume. Once the disruption ends, it may take time for services to return to normal due to backlogs in processing and delivery.
The potential strike comes amid ongoing financial strain for Canada Post. The Crown corporation has posted over $3 billion in losses since 2018 and is projecting another significant loss for 2024. To stave off insolvency, the federal government announced repayable funding of up to $1.034 billion earlier this year.
Canada Post has stated it remains committed to reaching new collective agreements that balance the needs of its workforce with the financial realities of the organization.
For residents and businesses in New Westminster, this means it’s wise to prepare for potential mail delays. Whether it’s planning ahead for essential deliveries or exploring digital alternatives for critical communications, being proactive could help mitigate the impact of a service disruption.
Canada Post advises customers to stay informed by checking its website regularly for updates on the status of negotiations and possible strike activity.
New Westminster is gearing up to welcome residents—both new and long-standing—to a special event designed to build community connections and provide access to vital resources. The 2025 Intercultural Festival and Information Fair will take place on Saturday, May 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at New Westminster Secondary School, located at 820 Sixth Street.
Organized by the City of New Westminster in collaboration with WINS Local Immigration Partnership, the event offers a wide range of free services and engaging activities. Attendees will be able to connect with volunteer organizations and explore resources related to health, employment, financial assistance, and settlement services.
In addition to the informative booths, the festival will include children’s activities and live entertainment, making it a family-friendly occasion. The event will be held indoors, ensuring a comfortable environment for everyone regardless of the weather.
Whether you're new to the city or looking to learn more about the services available, this festival provides a welcoming and inclusive space for all.
