If you think poetry is all serious and quiet, this event is here to change your mind.

“Famous Last Words” is bringing a spoken word comedy show to Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park on April 22, blending creativity, humour, and a little bit of chaos into one unforgettable night.

The show features poets competing in a series of fun, unconventional rounds — from writing in quirky formats like haikus and limericks to performing poems with unexpected twists, props, and audience interaction. No two shows are ever the same.

Alongside the performances, the night leans fully into its playful side, with recurring characters, audience participation, and even free treats, creating an atmosphere that’s more about connection and laughter than competition.

The lineup includes a mix of talented local and regional artists, including New Westminster’s own Poet Laureate Elliott Slinn, alongside other accomplished performers.

At its core, the event is about making poetry accessible, entertaining, and shared — turning a traditional art form into something lively, welcoming, and full of personality.
