A Sweet Way to Celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend

Looking for a sweet and memorable way to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend? This one is all about cake, laughter, and a little friendly competition.

The Mother’s Day Cake Contest is happening on Saturday, May 9 at Sapperton District Taphouse, inviting the community to come together for an afternoon filled with creativity and delicious treats.

Whether you are a baker ready to show off your skills or simply there to taste and enjoy, this event is designed to bring people together in a fun and welcoming way.

Guests can sample a variety of cakes, cast their votes for their favourites, and enjoy a festive atmosphere. Each ticket also includes a complimentary “Momosa”, adding an extra celebratory touch to the day.

The event unfolds throughout the afternoon, starting with cake displays, followed by tasting, voting, and wrapping up with the winner announcement.

The New West International Film Festival is now accepting early submissions for 2026, inviting creators from near and far to share their stories on the big screen.

Early submissions are open until May 15, with final submissions accepted through July 15 via FilmFreeway.

This growing local festival continues to shine a spotlight on independent film, emerging talent, and diverse storytelling, bringing creative energy and global perspectives right into the heart of New West.
