New Westminster, it’s time to grab your gloves and make a difference! Westminster House invites residents of all ages to come together for the annual Clean Up New West 2025, a fun-filled and impactful community cleanup event happening on Saturday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tipperary Park.

Whether you live, work, or recover in New Westminster, this event is your chance to help beautify our neighbourhood, connect with others, and enjoy a day packed with community spirit and exciting activities.

🧹 What’s Happening:
Meet at 9:00 a.m. sharp to pick up your cleanup supplies and head out across the neighbourhood. Whether you're flying solo or bringing a team, every bag of trash makes a difference. After the hard work is done, bring back what you’ve collected—it will be weighed for a chance to win awesome prizes!

👮 Police Boost Downtown Patrols Amid Spike in Crime in New Westminster 👮‍♀️

In response to a recent surge in violent and property-related crimes, the New Westminster Police Department has launched a temporary redeployment strategy to bolster public safety in the city’s downtown core. The move follows a series of troubling incidents, including two unprovoked assaults, a stabbing, and a broader uptick in offenses such as robberies, thefts, and mischief so far this year.

To address growing concerns from residents and the business community, police are increasing their presence in key areas of the downtown. Officers from specialized units, including the Crime Reduction Unit and Gang Suppression Unit, have been reassigned to focus on this high-traffic neighborhood. These officers are now conducting patrols in uniform and plain clothes—on foot, on bikes, and in vehicles—to maximize visibility and deterrence.

This enhanced deployment model is meant to reinforce the work of existing patrol teams and will be continually reviewed to ensure it effectively meets the needs of the community. The initiative underscores the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety and responding proactively to emerging crime trends.
