Want to help shape the future of New Westminster? The City is reminding residents that applications for the 2026-2027 Community Advisory Assembly are open, with the deadline fast approaching on June 14.
The Assembly brings together residents from a wide range of backgrounds, neighbourhoods, ages, and life experiences to participate in meaningful discussions and provide input on issues that matter to the community. Established by New Westminster City Council, the group serves as an advisory body that helps inform local decision-making while creating opportunities for residents to connect and learn from one another.
City officials are encouraging applications from people with diverse perspectives who are interested in civic engagement, community building, and helping ensure local voices are reflected in future conversations and priorities.
For residents looking to become more involved in their community, the Assembly offers a unique opportunity to contribute ideas, build new connections, and have a direct voice in shaping New Westminster.
New Westminster residents are being reminded that Stage 3 water restrictions are now in effect across Metro Vancouver following ongoing dry weather conditions.
The restrictions, which took effect on June 8, are aimed at protecting the region's shared drinking water supply during the early summer season.
Under the new rules, lawn watering is prohibited, and residents can no longer wash vehicles, boats, driveways, patios, or other outdoor surfaces except for limited health and safety purposes.
The good news for gardeners is that many plants can still be watered. Trees, shrubs, flowers, and landscaping may be hand-watered using a watering can, drip irrigation system, or a hose equipped with a spring-loaded shut-off nozzle. Vegetable gardens and edible plants remain exempt from the restrictions.
The City is also encouraging residents to explore water-saving solutions such as rain barrels, which are available through a subsidized program.
As summer temperatures continue to rise, officials say small conservation efforts across the community can make a significant difference in protecting local water resources.
