Help Clean the Shoreline This Saturday in New West

Looking for a meaningful way to spend your Saturday? The Queensborough community is coming together for a shoreline cleanup — and everyone is invited to join in.

The 16th Annual Spring Shoreline Cleanup and Invasive Pull takes place on Saturday, May 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Thompson’s Landing Park.

This family friendly event focuses on removing litter and invasive plants along the Fraser River, helping protect local ecosystems while bringing the community together outdoors.

Volunteers will be provided with supplies like gloves, bags, and tools, but if you have your own, you are encouraged to bring them along.

Participants can expect:

  • A chance to give back to the local environment

  • A welcoming, all ages atmosphere

  • Volunteer hours for students

  • Light snacks provided

Organized by the Queensborough Special Programs Committee in partnership with the City of New Westminster, the event is part of ongoing efforts to keep the shoreline clean and healthy.

Whether you stay for an hour or the whole event, every bit helps — and it is a great way to connect with neighbours while making a visible impact.

The New Westminster Symphony Orchestra is closing out its season with a special performance that celebrates the power of young talent.

Taking place on Sunday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m., Early Mastery brings audiences to the Sanctuary on 6th for an afternoon of inspiring music and fresh artistry.

This final concert highlights emerging musicians, including cellist Elaina Wai and composer Owen Black, both first year students already making their mark. The program also features works by legendary composers who began young, including Mozart, Schubert, and Elgar.

From Mozart’s first symphony, written at just eight years old, to Schubert’s iconic Unfinished Symphony, the concert explores how creativity can take shape early and leave a lasting legacy.
