Waiting for the bus and wondering, “Where is it?” There’s an app for that.

If you regularly hop on a TransLink bus, SkyTrain or SeaBus around New Westminster, the Transit app could make your next trip a little less guess-and-check.

TransLink has partnered with Transit to give Metro Vancouver riders access to real-time arrivals, trip planning, step-by-step directions and service alerts — all from your phone. Even better, TransLink riders automatically get access to Transit Royale, the app’s premium subscription, at no additional cost.

For New West commuters, that means you can check what's coming up at New Westminster Station, track nearby buses and plan connections before you head out. Routes serving the station include the 102, 103, 105, 106, 109, 112 and 123, alongside the Expo Line.

The app can also help when your usual trip doesn't go according to plan. Service alerts can flag disruptions, moved stops and other changes, while step-by-step directions can help you navigate an unfamiliar route.

So before you sprint for the bus stop or spend five minutes wondering whether you just missed your bus, check the app first.

📱 Free to download | Available on iOS & Android

What does it mean to belong, remember and find your place? Those ideas take centre stage at “What We Carry, Where We Stand: Poetry Reading,” a free and welcoming afternoon of poetry and spoken word during the New West Cultural Crawl.

On Saturday, October 3, from 2:30–3:30 p.m., head to Studio 417 at Anvil Centre for a casual gathering featuring local poets and their work. Presented in partnership with Janet Kvammen, City of New Westminster Poet Laureate, the reading explores themes of belonging, memory, movement and place through the power of poetry.

The event also offers a chance to connect with New West’s creative community and discover the voices and stories that help shape the city. While you’re there, be sure to check out the “What We Carry, Where We Stand” visual art exhibition on the fourth floor of Anvil Centre.

The event is free, offered in English and wheelchair accessible, with gender-neutral washrooms and a relaxed performance setting.
