Ask NWPD Anything About a Career in Policing
Thinking about a career in policing? The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is inviting students and recent graduates to join an online Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. (PST).
Hosted on the r/bcgrade12s subreddit, the interactive session will give participants the opportunity to ask honest questions about policing as a career. NWPD members will discuss topics including the hiring process, day-to-day responsibilities, career opportunities, workplace challenges, and what it's like to serve in law enforcement.
The online event is aimed at Grade 12 students, recent graduates, and anyone exploring future career options. Organizers hope the AMA will provide valuable insights and help participants make informed decisions about whether a career in policing aligns with their interests, skills, and goals.
The AMA is free to join, and anyone interested is encouraged to participate by submitting questions during the live discussion.
Local Comedians Unite to Help Fire-Displaced Residents
Laughter will take center stage for a meaningful cause as Stand-up for New West brings the community together to support residents displaced by the July 10 apartment fire in New Westminster.
The fundraising comedy show takes place on Tuesday, July 28, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Centennial Lodge in Queen's Park. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the event is open to guests 18 and older.
Organized by Debonneau Productions, the event will feature performances by a lineup of local comedians who are donating their time and talent to help raise funds for families affected by the devastating fire. One hundred per cent of proceeds from ticket donations and food and beverage sales will go directly to residents who lost their homes.
Guests can also enjoy tacos donated by Las Shilas, soft drinks from Heartberry Soda, and beer provided by Steel & Oak Brewing Co., with every dollar from food and beverage sales supporting the fundraising effort.
Admission is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, with a suggested donation of $25, making it easy for community members to contribute at a level that works for them while enjoying an evening of comedy and connection.
