A Journey from Makeup to Medicine

When she moved to Canada six years ago, the founder of Aegis Laser & Skin, Karan Deep, carried more than just experience — she brought a vision. After years of working in marketing and events, she longed to create something more personal. That spark led her from freelancing as a makeup artist to discovering the deeper science of healthy, radiant skin.

As her passion grew, so did her understanding. Beautiful makeup, she realized, begins long before the first brush stroke — it starts with the skin itself. Determined to learn more, she trained in medical aesthetics, lasers, and advanced skincare techniques, gaining hands-on experience alongside doctors and plastic surgeons. The result is a business that reflects both her creative and scientific sides — a perfect balance between art and anatomy.

The name Aegis — meaning “to protect and support” in Greek — perfectly captures her approach. Every treatment begins with understanding the skin as part of the whole body. Her ongoing studies in naturopathic medicine and homeopathy bring an added dimension to her work.

Local residents embraced her work from the very beginning. Today, many of her clients live nearby, often walking in from the Quay or hopping off the SkyTrain just to visit. Over time, those clients have become friends. “New West has given me so much,” she often says. “It feels like home.”

When the sun sets on Saturday, November 1, the New Westminster Quay will come alive with color, light, and music for the DISCO DASH 5K — the next big event in the Steel & Oak Beer Run Series!

Starting and finishing at Pier Park, this out-and-back route hugs the scenic Fraser River, offering stunning waterfront views and a festive nighttime atmosphere. With a flat, easy course and plenty of glow gear, it’s the perfect event for runners, walkers, and families ready to shine. 🌈

Bring your brightest and boldest look — think neon outfits, glow sticks, LED accessories, or even your leftover Halloween costume! 🎃 The goal is to transform the Quay into a glowing river of movement as participants light up the night together.

🍻 Hosted by Steel & Oak Brewing Co., this unique 5K combines fitness, fun, and community spirit — all while supporting KidSport New West, a local charity helping kids aged 18 and under access sports by covering registration fees. Donations can be made during sign-up or directly through the event page. 💛
