Road work is underway on East Sixth Avenue, with New Westminster drivers facing temporary traffic changes as crews complete one of the final stages of a local traffic safety improvement project.
Beginning Aug. 10, crews are repairing and paving East Sixth Avenue between McBride Boulevard and Cumberland Street, including the exit lane to Cumberland Street. The work is expected to continue for approximately two weeks.
During construction, single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect, so drivers should expect slower travel and possible delays through the area. Traffic control personnel and signs will be in place to help guide motorists safely through the work zone.
Residents heading to the təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre are advised to use East Seventh Avenue to access the facility.
The City is encouraging drivers to use alternate routes where possible and allow extra time for their journeys while crews complete the paving work.
