A routine patrol by the New Westminster Police on October 20th led to a tense situation after officers spotted a group of men on the second level of the Front Street parkade, one of whom appeared to be carrying a handgun. Police swiftly moved in, safely arresting four individuals and creating a large police presence in the downtown area.
The weapon was later confirmed to be a replica, and officers learned the group had been filming a music video without notifying authorities or following established safety protocols. The investigation remains active, and potential charges are being considered.
Police emphasized the serious risks associated with imitation firearms, warning that any report of a gun is treated as genuine until proven otherwise. Authorities are urging the public to avoid using or purchasing replica weapons, noting the potential for dangerous misunderstandings during police responses.
