The New Westminster Police Department is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on January 23, police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in the 800 block of Boyd Street. Witnesses called 9-1-1 after an elderly woman was hit by a driver.

Officers arrived alongside New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services and BC Emergency Health Services. The pedestrian was transported to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) attended to collect evidence, and the New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation, as is standard in fatal collisions.

Police continue to canvass the area for CCTV footage and are interviewing witnesses.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the collision is asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-529-2430.
