In times of hardship, it's often the smallest acts of kindness that remind us we're not alone. As New Westminster continues to support families affected by the Fourth Avenue fire, local businesses are coming together to care for another important part of those families—their beloved pets.

PAWS Veterinary Clinic & Grooming has partnered with Bosley's to provide support for pets impacted by the fire in the Brow of the Hill neighbourhood.

The clinic is accepting cash and e-Transfer donations to help provide non-emergency veterinary care, prescription medications, pet food, and other essential supplies for displaced pets. PAWS also says its veterinary team is volunteering its time to help care for animals in need.

At Bosley's, community members can donate pet food, supplies, or monetary contributions to assist families as they rebuild. The store has also created a memorial tree, offering a quiet place where people can leave messages of comfort and remembrance for pets lost in the tragedy.

The response is a reminder that New Westminster's compassion reaches every member of the family. As neighbours continue to lift one another up, these efforts are helping bring comfort, care, and hope to people—and the animals they love—during an incredibly difficult time.

The New Westminster Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards are now accepting nominations, and one category caught my attention: Community Champion.

It made me wonder whether our How Well Do You Know New West? game has become something more than just a daily challenge.

What started as a fun guessing game has grown into a way for thousands of people to look a little closer at our city. Together, we've explored local businesses, parks, public art, neighbourhoods, landmarks, and hidden gems that many of us have walked past without a second thought. Along the way, we've helped shine a spotlight on the people and places that make New Westminster special.

If you feel the game has helped you discover something new, brought a smile to your day, or strengthened your connection to our community, we'd be honoured if you considered nominating New West Spotlight for the Community Champion Award.

Whether or not we receive a nomination, we're grateful to every reader, every daily detective, every sponsor, and every community partner who has made this game such a special part of New West.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
