Planning to light up the sky this Halloween? The City of New Westminster is reminding residents to check local fireworks rules before celebrating, with restrictions in place to help keep the community safe.

According to the city, fireworks can be set off on the evening of October 31, but only by adults and on private property. Residents should also note that fireworks can only be possessed from October 28 to 31.

Planning to use high-hazard fireworks? A City of New Westminster permit is required, so make sure you understand the rules before making plans.

The city is also encouraging residents to review fireworks safety guidance from Natural Resources Canada before buying or using fireworks. Understanding proper handling and safety precautions can help reduce risks during Halloween celebrations.

Whether you're planning a backyard gathering or simply preparing for a busy Halloween evening, taking a few minutes to check the regulations can help make the night safer for everyone.

The City of New Westminster is asking residents to share its reminder with friends and neighbours to help spread awareness of the rules and encourage responsible celebrations.

Costumes on, candy bags ready — Hallowe’en on the Quay is back to bring a frightfully fun evening to New Westminster! 👻

On Saturday, October 31, families are invited to hit the Quayside waterfront for an evening packed with spooky surprises, dancing, games and trick-or-treating. Best of all? It’s free, family-friendly and open to everyone!

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Fraser River Discovery Centre will be buzzing with Halloween excitement. Little ghosts, goblins and their grown-ups can enjoy a Halloween dance party with a DJ, test their skills in spider races, explore glow-in-the-dark fun and brave the creepy-feely boxes!

The Halloween adventure continues along the boardwalk, where New Westminster Family Place will be handing out treats and little surprises. Local neighbours are also encouraged to set up their own trick-or-treat stops, helping turn the waterfront into a festive Halloween trail for families.

This annual community celebration is brought together by New Westminster Family Place, the Fraser River Discovery Centre, the City of New Westminster and the Downtown New Westminster Business Improvement Association.

So grab those costumes, bring your best dance moves and get ready for an evening of Halloween magic by the Fraser River. Whether you’re hunting for treats or just soaking up the spooky atmosphere, there’s plenty of fun waiting at the Quay!

📍 Where: Quayside waterfront, New Westminster
