In every corner of New Westminster, there are mothers quietly shaping our community with strength, compassion, and unwavering love.

They are the early risers packing lunches before work, the small business owners greeting customers with a smile, the healthcare workers finishing long shifts, the volunteers giving their time, and the grandmothers sharing wisdom across generations. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but their impact is felt everywhere.

Motherhood comes in many forms — biological mothers, stepmothers, foster moms, grandmothers, mentors, and caregivers — each carrying the everyday responsibility of nurturing families and building stronger communities.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the women whose kindness, resilience, and sacrifices help make New West feel like home.

To all the mothers in our city: thank you for the love you give so freely, the strength you show so quietly, and the countless ways you keep our community connected.

  • Take a peaceful walk by the waterfront or enjoy a picnic outdoors

  • Let mom take the day off — cook for her, clean the house, or handle the errands

  • Create a handmade card or memory scrapbook filled with favorite family moments

  • Spend uninterrupted time together — no phones, no rush, just good conversation and laughter

  • End the day with a cozy movie night, flowers, or her favorite takeout meal
