A Halloween night investigation in downtown New Westminster has revealed a series of violent incidents that police believe are connected, including an assault, a suspected rubber pellet gun attack and a stabbing that left one man with multiple injuries.
The incidents began around 7:20 p.m. on October 31, when police received reports that three suspects had assaulted a man riding a bicycle in the 400 block of Front Street. Witnesses reported that the group left with the victim’s bicycle. Officers searched the area but were initially unable to locate those involved.
Shortly afterward, police responded to a weapons incident in the 500 block of Front Street, where a man had reportedly been shot in the face with what is believed to be a rubber pellet gun. He suffered a cut to the head and was taken to hospital for treatment. Investigators later determined he was also a suspect in the earlier assault. He was released pending further investigation.
Later that evening, police learned that a man had been found in a neighbouring jurisdiction with injuries believed to be connected to the New Westminster assault. He was treated in hospital for multiple non-life-threatening stab wounds.
Investigators subsequently located evidence related to the stabbing in the 400 block of Front Street. Police believe the stabbing and pellet gun incidents are connected and that the people involved knew one another. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to establish what happened.
NWPD is asking anyone who witnessed the incidents or has dash-camera or CCTV footage from the area to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call 604-525-5411.
Firefighters Take the Win as Huck-a-Duck Adds to the Excitement! 🏒🚒🐥
The New Westminster Fire Department defeated the New Westminster Police Department 9–4 at the second KidSport New West Fall Classic on Saturday, November 7, at Queen's Park Arena.
And what a night it was!
With more than 750 tickets sold in advance and even more purchased at the door, the arena was buzzing with excitement as the community came together to support a great cause.
The rivalry between our local first responders was fierce, with hard checks, a few scuffles, and plenty of enthusiastic fans cheering on their favourite team.
And Then There Was Huck-a-Duck! 🐥
The popular Huck-a-Duck fundraiser added even more fun to the evening as hundreds of little yellow rubber ducks landed on the ice, giving everyone something extra to cheer about!
A big congratulations to Lila Day, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, who was the lucky Huck-a-Duck prize winner! 🏆
New West Spotlight was delighted to lend a hand, with publisher Carla McNeil joining the volunteers selling little yellow ducks for the popular fundraiser.

The Real Winners? New Westminster's Kids!
Beyond the friendly rivalry and all those yellow ducks, the evening had a much bigger purpose.
Proceeds from the event support KidSport New West, helping local families cover sports registration fees so more children can experience the joy of organized sports.
A fantastic evening of community spirit, friendly competition, and plenty of little yellow ducks!
