A late-night crash in New Westminster has prompted a police investigation, with criminal charges now being considered.
On March 30 around 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a serious collision at the intersection of 6th Avenue and McBride Boulevard. When emergency crews arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles, including one that had flipped onto its roof after travelling at a high rate of speed.
Some occupants from the flipped vehicle made their way to hospital on their own, while the driver of the second vehicle did not appear to suffer serious injuries.
Police say the extent of the damage makes it remarkable that no one was seriously hurt, and investigators are now reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area to come forward as the investigation continues.
The incident also serves as a reminder of the risks associated with high-speed and dangerous driving, which can have serious consequences for drivers, passengers, and others on the road.
๐ Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411
Students and families in Queensborough will continue to have access to school transportation โ at least for now โ following a $400,000 funding boost from the provincial government.
The Queensborough Bus Program, which was set to end this year, will continue in some form for another school year thanks to the one-time grant from the B.C. Ministry of Education and Child Care. The funding comes after strong advocacy from the Board of Education, City Council, and local families.
While the funding provides immediate relief, officials say it is not a permanent solution. Instead, the support will help transition the current program into a more sustainable, long-term model.
The district plans to work with partners such as TransLink and the City of New Westminster to explore future options, with more details expected in the coming weeks.
Launched as a pilot in 2022, the program currently serves about 275 students, providing daily transportation between Queensborough and New Westminster Secondary School.
For many families, the extension offers much-needed stability while longer-term solutions are developed.
