The ice may be gone for now, but New Westminster Minor Hockey Association (NWMHA) is already preparing to bring the heat for the 2025–2026 season. The association is now accepting Head Coach applications for the upcoming year and is looking for passionate leaders ready to motivate, mentor, and make a meaningful impact on the ice.

NWMHA is committed to building a strong, supportive environment where young athletes thrive—both as players and teammates. The organization is seeking qualified coaches who not only bring experience but also embody a coaching philosophy rooted in teamwork, sportsmanship, and progressive player development.

Applicants must submit a completed application form, along with a coaching resume and personal coaching philosophy, by April 30, 2025. Submissions should be sent to both [email protected] and [email protected].

This is more than just a coaching opportunity—it’s a chance to shape the next generation of players and leaders in the New Westminster hockey community. If you’re ready to lace up your leadership skills and guide the next wave of talent, NWMHA wants to hear from you.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is alerting the public about an ongoing phone scam in which fraudsters are spoofing the department’s non-emergency number (604-525-5411) to deceive individuals into revealing personal information.

Using technology to falsify caller ID, scammers are making it appear as though calls are originating from the NWPD. Once the call is answered, the fraudster may impersonate a police officer, complete with a fabricated name and badge number, to build credibility and pressure victims into disclosing sensitive data.

In response to the spike in suspicious calls—some reportedly received as far away as Toronto—the NWPD is urging the public to stay vigilant and take the following precautions:

  • Do not share personal information over the phone.

  • Do not be intimidated by threats or demands made by the caller.

  • Hang up immediately.

  • Verify any police-related calls by dialing the NWPD’s official non-emergency number directly at 604-525-5411. Do not use any callback numbers provided by the caller.

The department is closely monitoring the situation and is asking residents to help spread awareness by informing friends, family members, and neighbors, especially those who may be more vulnerable to phone scams..
