Get ready for an afternoon packed with colour, laughter, and nonstop family fun — the Hyack Festival Kids’ Zone is back in Downtown New West.

Located behind City Hall, this year’s Kids’ Zone is turning into a mini wonderland filled with activities designed to keep little adventurers smiling all day long.

Families can look forward to:
Face painting, balloon animals, carnival games, Lego stations, colouring activities, and live magic shows with the always entertaining Magic Max. Kids can also explore the interactive City Works Exhibit and get hands on with fun displays and activities.

The Kids’ Zone has become one of the most exciting parts of the Hyack Festival, giving families a place to play, explore, and make summer memories together right in the heart of the city.

Thanks to local sponsors and community partners, the space continues to grow bigger and more exciting every year.

Bring the kids, bring the energy, and get ready for a full afternoon of festival fun in New Westminster.

A large commercial vehicle enforcement operation in New Westminster led to several vehicles being taken off the road due to safety concerns.

On May 13, the New Westminster Police Department Traffic Unit partnered with multiple regional agencies for a commercial vehicle inspection event along Royal Avenue. Officers inspected 23 commercial vehicles during the operation.

Following the inspections, 8 vehicles were removed from service because of mechanical or safety related issues. Officers also identified 4 vehicles carrying insecure loads and 1 overweight vehicle. In total, 24 provincial violation tickets were issued.

The enforcement initiative involved support from several agencies, including Transit Police, Delta Police, Port Moody Police, the RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unit, and Langley Township Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.

Police say the goal of these inspections is to identify potential safety risks before they lead to serious collisions and to remind operators to ensure vehicles are road safe before beginning trips.
