🌟 Forward into the Future: The 2025 Hyack Multicultural Parade and Festival Ignites New Westminster 🎉
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, New Westminster will once again become a vibrant hub of color, music, and unity as it hosts the 2025 Hyack Multicultural Parade and Festival in the Park—a spectacular tradition that brings thousands of families, neighbors, and visitors together in celebration of community spirit.

A Parade Like No Other
The Hyack Festival Multicultural Parade is the largest family-oriented parade in British Columbia, featuring local entries as well as those from around the province. It’s a “can’t miss” event for the entire family, promising a high-energy, colourful, and entertaining procession of elaborately decorated floats, marching bands, cultural and community groups, performing artists, and more. As the festivities unfurl through the heart of New Westminster—from 8th Avenue and 6th Street, down 6th Street, along Queens Avenue, and finishing at Queen’s Park—expect music in the air, children’s laughter, and a sea of waving flags and costumes that dazzle the eye.
This year’s theme, “Forward into the Future” celebrates Hyack Festival’s journey as they continue to grow, evolve and enrich the lives of the citizens of New Westminster. Whether you’re watching from the sidelines or marching in the lineup, you’ll feel the pulse of joy, pride, and inclusivity that defines this treasured event.
Post-Parade Celebration at Tipperary Park
After the parade, the festivities roll into Tipperary Park from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM for an unforgettable afternoon of fun. This family-friendly ‘Festival at Tipperary’ fair will feature live entertainment, artisan vendors, and a delicious lineup of food trucks including Odd Burger, Old Country Pierogi, Shameless Buns, Kona Ice, and more. Nibble on Gary’s Kettle Corn, or try a sweet treat from Crema Ice Cream and Desserts!
The entertainment lineup will have you dancing along to the rhythms of the live bands including ‘Cooking with Brass’, Ricardo and Sangre Morena.
Family Fun for All Ages
Kids can enjoy face painting, balloon twisting, and hands-on crafts, while pet lovers will adore the Bosley’s Pet Zone, complete with a pet spa! The Port of Vancouver will also host a free photo booth, capturing keepsake moments of this heartwarming day.

Don’t miss the magic—May 24, 2025. We’ll see you on the streets of New Westminster!
Are you a high school student ready to take on a real challenge? This July, the City of New Westminster is offering students in grades 10 to 12 a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the thrill, intensity, and teamwork of firefighting—for free.
From July 7 to 11, selected teens will gear up for the Youth Firefighter Program, a five-day immersive academy that goes beyond classroom learning. Participants will suit up in full firefighting gear, tackle live fire scenarios, and train alongside real emergency responders. Along the way, they’ll gain practical first aid skills, build leadership confidence, and develop a deep sense of teamwork.
It’s not just a camp—it’s a launchpad. Whether you're considering a career in public safety or just looking for a powerful personal growth experience, this program offers the kind of adrenaline, challenge, and purpose that sticks with you for life.
The program is a collaboration between the City of New Westminster, Fire and Rescue Services, the Police Department, New Westminster Schools, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
Spots are limited and applications close at 5:00 p.m. on May 16, so don’t wait!
👉 Get your application at the New West Youth Centre or download it now at newwestyouth.ca.
