The City of New Westminster is inviting residents to learn more about upcoming updates to its Infill Housing Program. As the city works to expand diverse housing options, staff are proposing changes to both the Official Community Plan and the Zoning Bylaw.

An in-person engagement session will be held on Thursday, November 20 at Century House from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. During the event, participants will hear an overview of infill housing, learn how the planning process works, review what the City heard during community engagement earlier this year, and have the chance to ask questions and share feedback.

This session is part of a broader engagement period running November 18 to December 9, with multiple opportunities to participate both online and in person. Residents are encouraged to get involved and help shape how infill housing evolves in New Westminster.

A tense moment unfolded near the New Westminster SkyTrain Station on November 11 after a transit user encountered a man who allegedly threatened him with a knife. The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. near the bus loop, prompting the victim to immediately call 9-1-1 for help.

Responding officers quickly arrived and located a man who matched the description provided by the caller. He was taken into custody without incident, and a knife was seized during the arrest.

The investigation is ongoing as police review evidence and consider charges, including assault with a weapon and uttering threats. Officers continue to emphasize the importance of reporting safety concerns as soon as they happen.
