If flowers bring you joy and creativity is calling, the BC Floral Art Society offers a beautiful way to explore your artistic side while connecting with a welcoming community.

Founded in 1971, the society promotes and advances floral art through its club and community activities. Members gather on the second Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. at Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park for workshops, demonstrations and opportunities to learn new floral design techniques.

And you don’t need to be an expert to join! New members can take advantage of a mentorship program, making it easier for beginners to learn, build confidence and develop their own creative style.

Whether you’re already passionate about floral design or simply curious about turning flowers into art, the society offers a chance to learn something new and meet others who share the same interest.

Get ready to meet local firefighters, explore emergency equipment and learn how to keep your home and community safer! New Westminster Fire & Rescue Services is opening the doors to Glenbrook Fire Hall for a fun and informative community open house.

The event takes place Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1 Sixth Avenue East, with free admission and activities for everyone.

Visitors can enjoy live demonstrations, equipment displays and fire and community safety booths, while Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand to meet families and young visitors.

Feeling hungry? The New West Firefighters’ Charitable BBQ will be serving up food by donation, adding a tasty stop to the day.

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety; Safe Charging is a Superpower,” focuses on the safe use and charging of lithium-ion batteries and the importance of reducing battery-related fire risks.

There is no parking at the fire hall. Walking, biking or transit is strongly recommended, with parking also available by the Queen’s Park arena.
