A late-night collision in New Westminster has left a pedestrian with serious injuries, and police are now working to piece together what happened.

The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on March 28 near the intersection of 8th Street and 4th Avenue. Emergency crews responded quickly, with paramedics transporting the injured man to hospital.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators are now focusing on gathering more information, noting that some witnesses may have left before officers arrived. Officers are currently reviewing available footage and speaking with those who stayed.

Anyone who was in the area at the time โ€” especially those with dash cam or CCTV footage โ€” is encouraged to contact police.

Today, on World Autism Acceptance Day (April 2), the New Westminster Public Library (NWPL) is inviting the community to pause, reflect, and embrace a message rooted in understanding, respect, and belonging.

As part of Autism Acceptance Month, NWPL is highlighting the importance of moving beyond misconceptions and recognizing that autistic experiences are valid, meaningful, and an essential part of our community.

Throughout April, the library is sharing thoughtfully curated booklists for all ages โ€” from children to adults and parents โ€” helping spark empathy, learning, and connection through stories.

NWPL is also continuing to create a space where everyone feels comfortable. A new โ€œVisiting the Libraryโ€ story helps families prepare for their visit, while sensory supports like noise-reducing headphones and wobble cushions are available to make each visit more accessible and welcoming.

Families can also take part in the libraryโ€™s Sensory Storytime, a gentle, inclusive program designed for children who benefit from additional support. The next session takes place on April 13.

Today is a reminder โ€” and all month long, an invitation โ€” to build a community where everyone is seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
