The holiday season is lighting up Queensborough β€” literally! The beloved Lighting of the Firehall celebration returns on Saturday, November 29, bringing festive cheer, community spirit, and plenty of sparkle to Firehall #3.

From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., families can enjoy a cozy, joy-filled evening complete with hot cocoa, sweet treats from Take the Cake, and lively holiday music performed by the talented QMS Band. Kids (and kids at heart!) will have a chance to meet Santa and Sparky, making it the perfect night to kick off the season.

Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or a monetary donation for the Don’t Go Hungry Program β€” and this year, the Queensborough Special Programs Committee will triple every monetary donation to support local families.

Bundle up, bring the whole family, and help Shine Bright New West with a night of community magic.

Kids looking to try something new this winter? NWMBHA is once again opening the doors to its hugely popular Try Ball Hockey day, happening Sunday, December 14 at the Queen’s Park Sportsplex!

After two seasons of fantastic turnout, the program is back with three free introductory sessions designed for children born between 2013 and 2020. These beginner-friendly sessions are perfect for kids curious about the sport β€” and this year includes a special girls-only time slot to help grow the game even further.

πŸ•’ Session Times:

  • Co-Ed U8 & U10 (2017–2020): 8:30–9:30 AM

  • Co-Ed U12 & U14 (2013–2016): 9:30–10:30 AM

  • Girls Only U8–U14: 10:45–11:45 AM

Every participant will walk away with a free New West Knights T-shirt, making the day even more memorable.

Parents are encouraged to ensure kids arrive with all required gear, plus running shoes and a full water bottle to stay comfortable and hydrated.
