🌎 Mindful Living: Small Changes for a Greener, Healthier Life 🌎

As we celebrated Earth Day yesterday, we were reminded that caring for our planet starts with the choices we make every day. At New West Spotlight, we believe that mindful living not only helps protect the environment—it also leads to a healthier, more fulfilling life.

The good news? You don’t have to make huge changes to make a difference. Small, mindful shifts in our daily routines can add up to a powerful impact for ourselves, our community, and our planet.

Here are a few simple ways to practice mindful living starting today:

  • 🌱 Choose Reusables: Swap out single-use plastics for reusable bags, water bottles, and containers. It's a small habit that keeps a lot of waste out of our landfills and oceans.

  • 🌱 Eat Local and Seasonal: Support local farmers and markets in New Westminster. Fresh, seasonal produce not only tastes better, it also has a lower carbon footprint.

  • 🌱 Walk, Bike, or Carpool: Whenever possible, opt for greener transportation. It's better for the environment and great for your physical health too!

  • 🌱 Conserve Energy: Turn off lights when you leave a room, unplug devices when not in use, and consider switching to energy-efficient appliances.

  • 🌱 Buy Less, Choose Well: Mindful consumption means buying fewer, better-quality items that last longer—reducing waste and saving money over time.

Mindful living is about being intentional: thinking about where our food comes from, how our products are made, and how our actions affect the world around us.

Earth Day reminds us of the beauty and fragility of our planet. By choosing to live mindfully, we extend that celebration beyond just one day—and take an active role in creating a greener, healthier future for everyone.

💚 Happy Earth Month from all of us at New West Spotlight! 💚
Together, let's build habits that make every day an Earth Day.

Celebrate Earth Day in motion! Grab your helmets, gather your crew, and join the Earth Day Bike Parade rolling through New Westminster on Sunday, April 27, 2025 — an exciting ride packed with fun, community spirit, and eco-friendly vibes.

📍 Starting Line: Treats Concessions, Queen’s Park
🕚 Start Time: 11:00 AM
🚴 Route: A 5-kilometre, family-friendly cruise through some of the city’s most scenic streets — including Princess Street, 7th Avenue, and 6th Street, with cheerful pit stops at New Westminster Secondary School and Moody Park, before heading back to Queen’s Park.

Whether you're a casual cruiser, a little one on training wheels, or a costume-clad cyclist, everyone’s invited! Bring your best bike decorations, dress up in your Earth Day finest, and let your creativity shine — prizes and high-fives await the most imaginative participants.

🎉 After the ride, stick around for a bring-your-own picnic party in the park. Enjoy music, sunshine, and a festive atmosphere surrounded by fellow eco-champions.

The parade is proudly organized with the support of HUB Cycling and Babies for Climate Change — two amazing organizations promoting sustainable transportation and climate awareness.

Safety First!
All riders must:

  • Wear helmets

  • Check that their bikes are in good condition

  • Agree to the event waiver and liability terms
