In New Westminster, some passions donโt retire, they evolve.
After decades serving the local cycling community in Sapperton, former bike shop owner Gord Hobbis has turned a lifelong love of bikes into something truly special: a one of a kind museum that brings history to life.
Now home to dozens of carefully selected vintage bicycles, the TwoWheelTimeMachine is more than a collection, it is a journey through time. Each bike tells a story of innovation, freedom, and how something as simple as two wheels helped shape the world we live in today.
What makes this story even more meaningful is its deep connection to New Westminster. Many of these bikes once hung on the walls of Hobbisโ local shop, sparking curiosity and conversation for years before finding a new home. And the impact does not stop there. Through a nonprofit initiative, Hobbis is helping restore bikes and get them into the hands of people who need them, continuing a cycle of community support that started right here in New West.
It is a story of passion, history, and giving back, all set in motion by a love for the ride. Visits to the museum are available by appointment, with occasional open house events for the public.
A police response in New Westminster earlier this week ended safely after several hours of negotiation.
On April 15 around 7:00 p.m., New Westminster Police were called to a residence in the 600 block of Hamilton Street to check on the well-being of a man inside a suite. Concerns were raised after previous attempts to contact him suggested he was agitated and possibly in possession of a firearm.
Officers worked to communicate with the man from outside the suite, while also deploying a police drone to gather additional information. The situation remained ongoing for several hours as negotiations continued.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers apprehended the man under the Mental Health Act and he was taken to hospital for treatment. Police later confirmed that a replica firearm was found inside the suite.
No injuries were reported.
The incident highlights the role of de-escalation, patience, and specialized tools in safely resolving complex situations in the community.
