A little music has gone a long way in bringing New Westminster's waterfront together this summer. With just two dates remaining, Buskers on the Boardwalk will return to River Market on Aug. 8 and Aug. 15, showcasing local musicians, poets, and dancers.
Arts New West introduced the free program while its Queen's Park Summer Concert Series is on pause due to Bandshell renovations. Wanting to keep live music in the community and continue creating opportunities for local musicians, organizers brought performers to the waterfront alongside the New West Craft Summer Markets.
The result has been a welcome addition to summer Saturdays, bringing wonderful energy and a vibrant atmosphere for market visitors and performers alike.
The response has been so encouraging that Arts New West anticipates welcoming buskers back to its summer markets again next year.
Performances run 1–2 p.m. and 3–4 p.m. at River Market, 810 Quayside Drive, and are free to enjoy.
New Westminster voters have an important deadline coming up as the city prepares for the 2026 municipal election this fall.
General Voting Day is set for Saturday, Oct. 17, when residents will elect one mayor, six city councillors, and seven school trustees to represent the community.
Ahead of election day, residents are being encouraged to make sure their voter information is current. The deadline to register or update voter information is Aug. 18, giving eligible voters just a few weeks to confirm their details.
Residents can check or update their registration through Elections BC or call 1-800-661-8683 for assistance.
Municipal elections give residents a direct say in the leadership responsible for decisions affecting local services, neighbourhoods, infrastructure, and schools. With October approaching, checking voter registration now is one simple way to be ready when it's time to cast a ballot.
