A new provincial liquor policy could bring welcome relief to restaurants, pubs, and hospitality businesses across New Westminster.
The B.C. government has launched a three-year pilot program allowing restaurants, bars, and pubs to purchase alcohol directly from both BC Liquor Stores and private liquor retailers, rather than relying solely on the Liquor Distribution Branch.
For New Westminster businesses, the change could help operators respond more quickly during busy weekends, special events, and unexpected supply shortages. Instead of waiting days for deliveries, establishments will be able to restock popular products locally, helping avoid lost sales and disappointed customers.
The policy may be especially beneficial for the city's growing hospitality sector, including independent restaurants, craft beer venues, pubs, and event spaces that often need greater flexibility to meet customer demand. Industry leaders say the change could also free up cash flow by reducing the need to purchase large quantities of inventory in advance.
With summer festivals, community events, and patio season now underway, many hospitality operators see the new rules as a practical step that supports local businesses while improving customer choice and service.
Got clothes you no longer wear? They could make a difference right here in New Westminster.
The New West Hospice Society is inviting residents to take part in a Clothing Donation Drive on June 14, offering a simple way to declutter while supporting a meaningful local cause.
Community members are encouraged to donate gently used clothing during the one-day collection event, with proceeds helping support the programs and services provided by the New West Hospice Society. The organization plays an important role in supporting individuals and families facing serious illness, grief, and end-of-life journeys.
Whether you're tackling a spring closet cleanout or simply looking for a way to give back, every donation helps support compassionate care in the community.
The donation drive takes place June 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 318 Pine Street in New Westminster.
