Ready to discover the beauty side of Uptown New West? The first-ever Uptown Beauty Crawl is inviting locals to step inside some of the neighbourhood’s beauty and wellness businesses, meet the people behind them and enjoy a morning filled with discovery, connection and a few special perks along the way.
Taking place Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, the crawl is a chance to explore a variety of local services while meeting business owners, picking up free product samples and enjoying discounts on future services. Coffee and snacks are included, making it an easy and fun way to spend your Saturday morning.
Bring a friend, meet someone new and get to know the local businesses that help Uptown New West shine. Since the crawl moves between several locations, participants can expect 5–8 minutes of walking between some stops. There isn’t enough time for full treatments during the tour, but there’s plenty of opportunity to discover what’s available and find your next favourite local spot.
The event costs $15 plus GST, and registration is required. It’s also part of Small Business Week in New Westminster, making it a great way to explore, connect and support local businesses.
Get ready for a movie weekend with a New West twist! The New Westminster International Film Festival returns October 23–25, bringing three days of independent films, filmmaker conversations, documentaries, horror, drama, animation and shorts to Landmark Cinemas New Westminster.
The festival kicks off Friday with Friday Night Frights, featuring horror screenings, a meet-and-greet and a panel exploring the art of horror storytelling and why the genre keeps audiences coming back. Saturday dives into three themed blocks—Facing Uncertainty, What We Don’t Say and Power of Perspective—with films followed by conversations with directors.
Sunday continues the storytelling with Choices and two parts of What We Carry, featuring films and discussions that explore identity, culture, experiences and the stories we carry with us.
Tickets range from $15 for individual Saturday or Sunday blocks to $25 for opening night, with $35 day passes and a $75 full festival pass. The festival is 18+, and every ticket includes a $2 membership fee for the New West Film Society.
Located at 800 Carnarvon St., the festival offers a chance to discover bold independent films, connect with filmmakers and experience stories that may not otherwise make it to the big screen.
