New Westminster is celebrating a major housing milestoneโ€”surpassing the Provinceโ€™s Year One Housing Target by a wide margin. Between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025, the City completed 1,175 new homes, nearly doubling the target of 656 units.

Of these, 59% were ownership units and 41% were rentals. Importantly, the new supply included 552 two-bedroom homes and 146 three- and four-bedroom homes, helping to meet the growing need for family-sized housing.

The completions were driven largely by two major developments: the One Fifty Braid tower, approved in 2022, and the Pier West towers, approved back in 2014. In addition, 1,088 units were approved for future development, including 141 below-market homes. Building permits were also issued for 52 supportive housing units.

This success reflects years of groundwork and planning. The City has introduced initiatives like the Affordable Housing Accelerator, updated its Family-Friendly Housing Policy, and advanced long-range planning around 22nd Street Station. Work continues on new programs to support infill, townhouses, and transit-oriented development in line with provincial legislation.

New Westminster remains committed to delivering a wide range of housing options and tackling the housing crisis head-on.
