Election season is getting closer in New Westminster, and voter information cards are now landing in mailboxes across the city. The City of New Westminster has mailed Voter Information Cards to registered voters, giving residents a handy reminder to get ready for the 2026 election.
Bringing your voter card with you when you vote in person can help make the process faster, and registered voters do not need additional identification when they have their card.
Didn’t receive a voter card? No worries—you may still be eligible to vote. Registered voters can show up without a card, while those who aren’t registered can register by bringing two pieces of identification. Both must show your name, with at least one showing your address and at least one including your signature.
Whether your voter card has already arrived or you’re still getting ready, now is a good time to make sure you know what you’ll need before heading to the polls.
For a full list of acceptable identification and more voter information, visit newwestcity.ca/voter-information.
A smoother ride is on the way for Boyd Street as the City of New Westminster gets ready for its next 2026 Capital Paving project. From October 7–9, weather permitting, crews will mill and repave Boyd Street between Duncan Street and Ewen Avenue.
The work will come with some temporary traffic changes, so drivers should plan ahead. Expect one-way or alternating single-lane traffic, traffic control personnel and signage in the area, along with possible temporary bus stop closures or relocations. Delays are expected, and using an alternate route may help keep your trip moving.
While Boyd Street may look to be in decent shape, pavement assessments have identified deterioration that needs to be addressed before bigger problems develop. As part of the Major Road Network, the street handles higher traffic volumes and plays an important role as a regional connection.
Getting the work done now will help extend the road’s lifespan, create a smoother driving surface and reduce the need for more extensive and costly repairs down the road.
