British Columbia will officially adopt permanent, year-round daylight saving time after clocks โspring forwardโ on Sunday, March 8, 2026 โ marking the final time change for most residents.
Once clocks move ahead one hour, they will not fall back in November. Instead, the province will remain on what will be known as Pacific time (UTC-7) year-round.
The Province says eliminating seasonal time changes will reduce disruptions to families, improve consistency for businesses, and provide an extra hour of evening daylight during the winter months. Government will work with organizations and businesses over the next eight months to ensure a smooth transition ahead of Nov. 1, 2026 โ the date clocks would normally have shifted back.
The move follows strong public support. In a 2019 provincial engagement process, 93% of the 223,000 participants supported ending the twice-yearly clock changes.
Some communities in northeastern and southeastern B.C. that observe Mountain time will continue following their existing local time practices, meaning time alignment may differ slightly depending on the season.
An early-morning patrol in downtown New Westminster led to the discovery of a man suffering from gunshot wounds on January 9.
At approximately 3 a.m., an officer conducting patrol near 100 Columbia Street located a man on the ground in apparent distress. Upon approaching, the officer determined he had sustained gunshot injuries.
The Major Crime Unit led the investigation, working alongside the Street Crime Unit and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team. As a result, one suspect was arrested and a loaded prohibited firearm was seized. A second suspect was later identified and arrested without incident.
Amman Crafton, 38, of New Westminster, has been charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm under Section 95 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Police say the investigation required extensive coordination, with support from the Victim Assistance Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, and Crime Reduction Unit. The investigation remains ongoing. Both suspects have been released with strict court-ordered conditions.
