Following an investigation into historical sexual offence allegations, the New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit has arrested 58-year-old Ronald Veit of Surrey. Veit now faces multiple charges related to incidents that are alleged to have taken place between 2008 and 2012 across several Metro Vancouver communities, including Langley, Surrey, New Westminster, Coquitlam, and Burnaby.
The charges include:
Sexual Interference (Section 151 of the Criminal Code), alleged between September 2008 and May 2010.
Sexual Exploitation (Section 153 of the Criminal Code), alleged between May 2010 and May 2012.
Sexual Assault (Section 271 of the Criminal Code), alleged between September 2008 and May 2012.
Police emphasize that these allegations have not been proven in court and that the matter remains before the judiciary. The New Westminster Police Department has taken a trauma-informed, victim-centered approach to the investigation, with the Major Crime Unit working closely alongside the Victim Assistance Unit to support those affected.
Veit has been released from court under strict conditions, including prohibitions on possessing weapons, volunteering with minors, and attending certain public spaces. He may only interact with individuals under 18 in the presence of a parent, guardian, or other adults, and is restricted to coaching hockey in supervised settings such as skating rinks.
Investigators continue to seek additional information that could assist the case and are urging anyone with relevant details to contact the New Westminster Police Department Major Crime Unit at 604-529-2430.
