Looking for the ultimate summer activity in New West? NWPD Soccer School is back at Queen’s Park from July 20–24, 2026, and it’s shaping up to be another unforgettable week of fun, friendship, and football!

Designed for kids ages 5 to 10, this high-energy program runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday to Friday, blending skill-building, teamwork, and confidence-building in a positive, supportive environment. It’s more than just soccer — it’s a chance for kids to connect with local police and first responders while staying active and having a blast.

And the fun goes beyond the field! Kids can look forward to visits from BC Ambulance Service, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the New Westminster Fire Department. The police helicopter is expected to make a special appearance, and families will enjoy an emergency vehicle car show, a petting zoo, and an inflatable bouncy stadium.

Registration is $161.42 plus fees per child, which includes five days of instruction, a t-shirt, and a soccer ball.

Spots fill quickly every year — don’t miss out on one of New West’s most anticipated summer programs!

The City of New Westminster has become the 12th municipality in British Columbia to support a proposed class action lawsuit seeking to recover climate-related costs from global fossil fuel companies.

As part of its newly adopted budget, City Council committed $1 per resident toward launching the legal action. The initiative aims to address the growing financial burden climate impacts are placing on local governments — from extreme weather response and infrastructure damage to long-term adaptation planning.

City leaders have expressed that climate damages should not fall solely on local taxpayers while the companies linked to greenhouse gas emissions avoid contributing to those costs. The lawsuit effort is rooted in the principle that polluters should pay their fair share.

Local advocacy played a key role in advancing the motion. The New West Climate Action Hub and the Monkey Rebel activism club at New Westminster Secondary were among the community groups supporting the push for action.

New Westminster now joins a growing number of B.C. municipalities backing the legal effort.
