A major infrastructure upgrade is coming to Queensborough.

The Province of British Columbia has awarded a $20.8 million contract to Kingston Construction Ltd. to rehabilitate the Queensborough Bridge, a vital connection between New Westminster and Lulu Island. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and continue through fall 2027.

Originally built in 1960, the four-lane bridge carries nearly 88,000 vehicles every day, making it one of the busiest crossings in the region. Over the decades, the bridge has received seismic and safety upgrades, and this latest project is part of the province’s long-term plan to extend its lifespan and improve reliability.

While work is underway, residents should expect nightly lane closures in both directions between 9:30 pm and 5:00 am (until 8:00 am on weekends). One lane will remain open in each direction, though some evening congestion is expected.

The project reflects continued investment in keeping New Westminster’s transportation infrastructure safe, functional, and ready for the future.
