Police in New Westminster are asking for witnesses after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a parking lot collision Sunday afternoon.
The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says the incident happened at approximately 1:45 p.m. in the Costco parking lot on Tanaka Court, in the Queensborough neighbourhood near Gifford Street.
According to police, the pedestrian was walking through the parking lot when they were struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene to find a woman suffering from serious injuries. NWPD members immediately provided first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to hospital. Her current condition has not been released.
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Police say impairment is not believed to be a factor, and no charges have been announced at this time.
Investigators believe the area was busy at the time of the collision and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
“This was a busy parking lot, and we believe there may be people who saw what happened who have not yet spoken to police,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the NWPD at 604-525-5411 and reference file number 26-611.
