New Westminster is planning ahead for a growing population with the adoption of its new “People, Parks, and Play” strategy — a long-term roadmap for parks and recreation across the city.

Approved by City Council, the plan outlines how parks, facilities, and programs will evolve through 2035, with a broader vision extending to 2050. The goal is to ensure residents continue to have access to green space, recreation, and community amenities as demand increases.

With more people calling New Westminster home, the City notes that park space per person has declined, and existing facilities are feeling the pressure. This plan aims to address those challenges by focusing on more inclusive, accessible, and connected spaces that support health, well-being, and community life.

The strategy was shaped by over 3,000 community touchpoints, reflecting local priorities alongside long-term planning needs.

Implementation will roll out in phases, with projects prioritized based on funding, growth, and community needs. The City says updates will be shared as work progresses.

Looking for a fun, feel-good way to move and connect? BollyFusion’s Café Dance Nights are bringing Bollywood beats and community vibes to New Westminster on Friday, April 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Hosted at You N Me Café, this monthly, beginner-friendly dance class blends music, movement, and a welcoming atmosphere where you can show up exactly as you are. No experience needed — just come ready to dance, relax, or simply enjoy the energy.

The April theme, “Sangeet Vibes,” features iconic tracks like Bole Chudiyan, Maahi Ve, and Om Shanti Om, making it a lively, nostalgic night of movement and music.

Designed as a femme-centered space, the event prioritizes comfort, self-expression, and inclusivity — while welcoming everyone to be part of a positive, supportive environment.

Each ticket includes a special café treat, adding to the cozy, social vibe.
