June is officially Pet Ownership Awareness Month in New Westminster, and the city is calling on pet parents to brush up on their responsibilities while celebrating the joy of four-legged companionship.

Whether you’re caring for a curious cat or an energetic pup, this month is all about reinforcing best practices in responsible pet ownership. The city is encouraging residents to stay on top of essentials like pet licensing, leashing, permanent ID, and of course, scooping up after your pet—key habits that keep pets safe, streets clean, and neighbours happy.

To make the campaign even more engaging, New Westminster is hosting a photo contest with a fun prize for local pet lovers. Residents are invited to share a picture of their dog or cat in the comments of the city’s official campaign post to enter a draw for a $500 HPZ Pet Rover Run stroller—a premium, foldable pet stroller with all-terrain wheels and a 50-pound weight capacity.

The contest is open to New Westminster residents only, and the lucky winner will be drawn at the end of June. Full contest rules and pet bylaw information can be found at newwestcity.ca/pet-ownership.
