A local brewery is opening its doors to support dogs in need — and the community is invited to take part.

Howe Sound Brewing’s New Westminster location will be hosting a fundraiser in support of Northern Canine Rescue, a volunteer-run organization dedicated to rescuing, sheltering, and rehoming stray and neglected animals in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

The drop-in event invites guests to learn more about dog fostering and adoption while enjoying good food, good company, and a good cause. Fundraiser tickets are $40 and include a burger and beer, with all proceeds donated directly to Northern Canine Rescue.

Tickets are physical only and can be purchased in person at Howe Sound Brewing New West, located at 411 Columbia Street. Tickets are non-refundable, and availability is limited.

Northern Canine Rescue is made up of passionate animal lovers committed to improving the lives of dogs in remote northern communities through rescue, education, and rehoming efforts.

Community members are encouraged to drop by, donate, and learn how they can support this important work.

For more information about the rescue, visit northerncaninerescue.com.

Spring is in the air, and that means it’s time for Hyacks Spring Flag Football to kick off another exciting season in New Westminster.

The RCHFC Hyacks Youth Football program is welcoming players ages 4 to 16 to Mercer Stadium this spring for a season focused on fun, skill-building, and teamwork. Whether your child is brand new to football or already loves the game, Spring Flag Football offers a supportive, inclusive environment where athletes can learn, grow, and make new friends.

This non-contact program emphasizes the fundamentals of football while building confidence, coordination, and sportsmanship. Weekly practices give players the chance to develop skills at their own pace, all while being part of the positive and encouraging Hyacks community.

Spring Flag Football is about more than just the game — it’s about belonging, staying active, and enjoying time on the field with teammates.

📍 Location: Mercer Stadium, 900 6th Street
👧🧒 Ages: 4–16
