Metro Vancouver Transit Police are investigating a spike in bus shelter vandalism across the region — including incidents affecting New Westminster.
Police say the investigation began February 2, 2026, after multiple shelters were found with shattered glass along a stretch of 152nd Street in Surrey. Fourteen damaged shelters were initially identified, with glass believed to have been broken by a small projectile.
Since then, similar patterns of vandalism have been discovered in several municipalities, including Burnaby, Surrey, and New Westminster. To date, approximately three dozen bus shelters across Metro Vancouver have been identified with comparable damage.
For New Westminster residents who rely on transit daily, the damage may mean temporary service disruptions, reduced shelter from weather, and safety concerns at bus stops.
Police are asking anyone who may have information or video footage related to the incidents to contact Transit Police at 604-515-8300 or by text at 87-77-77. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at solvecrime.ca.
The investigation remains ongoing.
