Looking for creative inspiration this summer? Grab your sketchbook, paints, or pencils and head to Queen's Park, where Arts New West is inviting artists of all skill levels to create outdoors in one of the city's most picturesque settings.
Plein Air in the Park returns every Wednesday from June through August, transforming the area around the Gallery at Queen's Park into a welcoming gathering place for artists who enjoy creating in the open air.
From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., participants are encouraged to bring their own art supplies and spend the afternoon capturing the beauty of Queen's Park and its surrounding landscapes. Whether you paint, draw, sketch, or work in another medium, the drop-in sessions offer a relaxed opportunity to connect with fellow artists, exchange ideas, and enjoy the creative energy of the community.
No registration is required, making it easy to join whenever inspiration strikes. While drop-ins are welcome, Arts New West appreciates a quick email in advance to help estimate attendance.
Whether you're a seasoned plein air painter or trying outdoor art for the first time, this free weekly gathering is a wonderful way to celebrate summer, creativity, and New Westminster's natural beauty.
Summer afternoons on New Westminster's waterfront are about to get even more lively!
Arts New West is launching Buskers on the Boardwalk, a brand-new free live entertainment series that will fill the River Market boardwalk with music, poetry, dance, and local talent throughout the summer.
Beginning Saturday, July 4, and continuing every Saturday until August 15, visitors can enjoy performances by local musicians, poets, and dancers while strolling the boardwalk, grabbing lunch, or relaxing by the Fraser River.
Performances will take place twice each event dayβfrom 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.βmaking it easy to stop by whether you're spending the day at the Quay or simply looking for a fun weekend outing.
The series showcases local artists while adding even more energy to one of New Westminster's favourite summer destinations. Best of all, it's completely free to attend.
So grab an ice cream, browse the River Market, take a walk along the waterfront, and enjoy an afternoon of live entertainment in the heart of New West.
