A Burnaby woman has been sentenced to two and a half years in jail after pleading guilty to 16 charges stemming from a New Westminster Police Department investigation into a series of break-ins and property-related offences.

The NWPD Street Crime Unit began investigating multiple break-and-enters in New Westminster in January 2026. Later that month, officers executed a search warrant at a Burnaby residence and arrested a suspect.

In February, 38-year-old Lindsay Ellis of Burnaby was formally charged with 16 offences, including break and enter, theft, mail theft, identity theft, possession of stolen property, possession of credit cards and identity documents, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of forged documents.

Ellis pleaded guilty to the charges in July and was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.

The investigation was led by the NWPD's Street Crime Unit, which operates within the department's Support Services Division. The unit focuses on property crime and drug investigations, using surveillance, undercover operations and plainclothes work to identify crime trends and support larger investigations.

Police said the unit's work is focused on holding repeat offenders accountable and seeking justice for victims of property crime.

New Westminster residents with electrically heated homes or condos could be eligible for thousands of dollars in rebates through a limited-time BC Hydro heat pump incentive program.

Eligible homeowners can already receive up to $4,000 toward a qualifying heat pump installation through BC Hydro's Home Renovation Rebate Program and Condo and Apartment Rebate Program. For a limited time, additional bonus incentives of up to $1,000 are also available.

The bonus program applies to qualifying air-source heat pumps that are installed, invoiced and paid for between August 1 and October 31, 2026. Complete rebate applications must be submitted by November 30, 2026.

Additional incentives include up to $1,000 for whole-home heating upgrades, $500 for partial-home heating upgrades, and up to $1,000 for qualifying multi-split heat pump systems in condos and apartments.

Eligible participants will also have a chance to win one of three $5,000 prizes.

The bonus funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so residents interested in upgrading their heating system are encouraged to check the requirements before starting an installation.
